Wildlife officials working to identify bear in Anchorage attack, with 67-year-old hiker stable
According to the Anchorage Police Department, the victim is a 67-year-old woman who is in stable condition after she was rescued with a helicopter Tuesday and brought to a hospital. “She sustained injuries to her head, neck and arm,” APD spokesman Christopher Barraza wrote in an email Wednesday.
The woman was hiking the Basher Trail in Alaska's Chugach Mountains when the bear attacked and mauled her, the Anchorage Fire Department said.
A spokesman for the Anchorage Police Department, which was leading rescue operations, described the victim’s injuries as not life-threatening.
