An investigation into a house fire in Waterbury has led to the arrest of a woman accused of holding her stepson captive for decades. The Waterbury Police Department along with personnel from the Waterbury Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a residence on Blake Street on Feb.

A Connecticut mother allegedly held her severely emaciated stepson in captivity for decades in “something out of a horror movie” before he set a fire in their home to escape the “inhumane” and hellish conditions,

The 32-year-old man told firefighters that he intentionally set fire to his stepmom's home and said, "I wanted my freedom" after 20 years of captivity.

A Connecticut woman has been arrested after police say she held her stepson captive for over two decades, subjecting him to extreme neglect and abuse before he allegedly set fire to their home in a desperate bid for freedom.
