After rapidly intensifying into a Category 5 storm on Saturday, Hurricane Erin has since been downgraded to a Category 4 system with sustained winds of 130 mph. However, it is expected to intensify and grow in size over the next few days.

Hurricane Erin, now classified as a major hurricane, is under close observation by Hurricane Hunters. The storm’s wind field has grown to about 400 miles with tropical storm-force winds.

Officials are warning novice swimmers and surfers about dangerous rip currents and large waves at Florida's beaches from Hurricane Erin. Up to 12' waves are possible this week, along with rough surf conditions.
