Parts of North Carolina's Outer Banks are under mandatory evacuation orders, as the National Hurricane Center warns that Hurricane Erin could bring tall waves topping 15 to 20 feet.
Erin was a Category 3 hurricane in the North Atlantic Ocean late Monday Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Erin is the fifth named storm to form in the Atlantic in 2025. Follow our coverage here.
After losing some intensity over the weekend, Erin strengthened back into a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph, according to an 11 a.m. ET advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
