A representative for Trader Joe’s told Nexstar on Thursday that the frozen product is not currently available at stores amid the recall.

Trader Joe's is telling its customers to throw away or return the grocery store chain's organic acai bowls because they possibly contain plastic. The Monrovia, California-headquartered company announced the recall on Feb. 14 "out of an abundance of caution." Trader Joe's said the product "may contain foreign material (plastic)."

“Out of an abundance of caution, please discard any Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls, as the product may contain foreign material (plastic), or return them to your neighborhood Trader Joe’s store for a full refund,” the notice on Trader Joe’s website states. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date, according to Real Simple.

The popular breakfast item was recalled last week due to possible plastic contamination. The grocery chain did not say if the product had made anyone ill.

Acai’s dark purple berries are from a palm tree found throughout South America and are touted as an antioxidant-rich food source that some nutritionists believe can protect cells from damage, according to WebMD. Proponents say the berries are richer in antioxidants than cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry or blueberries.
