TDOC called off the execution of Tony Carruthers after repeated attempts to find a vein for lethal injection failed.

The staff attempted to locate a proper vein for 1.5 hours before the execution was aborted, and Carruthers was returned to a cell at the prison.

Tony Carruthers, who has been on death for 30 years, declined a final meal prior to his failed execution on May 21.

It is the sixth failed lethal-injection execution in less than 10 years.
