No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek overcame fifth-seeded Elena Rybakina in two sets 6-2 7-5 to progress into the Doha semifinal and clinch her 15th consecutive win at the Qatar Open. The Pole - who is bidding for a four-peat in Doha this week - made an early statement after breaking the Kazakh in the second and eighth games to routinely win the first set.

Ekaterina Alexandrova also made the semis, beating sixth seed Jessica Pegula after her win over World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

After the exits of Rybakina and Pegula, Swiatek is the last survivor among the Doha seeds. “I’m super happy and proud of myself, in the second set I felt she lifted her level,” Swiatek said. She next plays Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, who eased past Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, a former world No. 2, 6-2, 6-2.
