U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were in Israel on Saturday to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, mainly to discuss Gaza, two people briefed on the matter said, as local authorities reported further violence in the enclave.

The visit comes amid growing concerns that Tehran may be close to being targeted by a potential US military strike.

Much of the Gaza Strip lies in ruin from more than two years of Israeli strikes, with its 2 million Palestinian residents largely living in tents.

Israeli forces shelled multiple areas across Gaza despite a ceasefire, as infants died from extreme cold amid blockade, aid restrictions, and worsening humanitarian conditions.
