The New York Mets allowed David Wright to pass the torch to Francisco Lindor. Wright's No. 5 was retired by the team on July 19 and amongst the festivities was Lindor being named the new team captain. Lindor joins an exclusive group in team history in gaining the honor.

The New York Mets went all out for their former captain in David Wright and retired his No. 5 at Citi Field during a ceremony on July 19. That's not all the team pulled off. Shortstop Francisco Lindor was named only the fifth captain in Mets history as well and he is the first captain of the team since Wright last held that honor in 2018.

The Mets had a memorable pregame ceremony at Citi Field on Saturday, retiring David Wright’s uniform No. 5 and inducting him into the Mets Hall of Fame because of a fabulous 14-year career in orange and blue.

The New York Mets have set their starting rotation to begin the second half, which will feature Sean Manaea making his first start of the season on Friday night.

The jersey retirement ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. ET on SNY before the second game of the Mets’ three-game series against the Reds, which starts at 4:10 p.m. ET. Wright will also be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame.
