American space agency NASA is looking into nickel-titanium as a potential material for future planetary rovers wheels, testing ongoing

Any vehicle traversing the rocky terrain on Mars needs a sturdy set of wheels. NASA’s Perseverance rover, for example, sports thick aluminum ones covered in cleats to enhance its traction and mobility.

NASA has joined forces with Goodyear to develop new tyres for Mars exploration. At the Glenn Research Center in Ohio, engineers tested a prototype rover equipped with "shape memory alloy" spring tyres.
