More than 700 National Park Service employees have submitted resignations as part of Elon Musk’s “fork in the road” offer, according to an internal agency memo.
Federal workers across several agencies are losing their jobs at a breakneck pace. In Montana, Wyoming and Idaho — across Greater Yellowstone and beyond — employees with the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service and more are concerned their positions may be on the chopping block. The layoffs are coming fast from the Trump administration at the direction of its Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, led by billionaire and Tesla founder Elon Musk.
On one February day alone, the Trump administration abruptly fired an estimated 14,000 federal workers. Among them was Brian Gibbs, a National Park Service ranger whose heartbreaking account of losing his “dream job” puts a human face on a crisis that threatens the very fabric of American life.

The Trump administration is restoring jobs for dozens of fired National Park Service employees and hiring nearly 3,000 additional seasonal workers, following an uproar over an aggressive plan to downsize the agency.
Scores of people, many toting homemade signs, braved the briskly cold weather Saturday afternoon to gather at the Indiana Dunes National Park Visitor Center to protest the loss of park employees.
Well, over the weekend, people outside the federal government realized that seemingly anyone can send an email that will presumably reach Musk at this Office of Personnel Management address. On Facebook, Alt National Park Service, a "resistance" page dedicated to protecting the parks, posted this:
