Miami International Airport is projecting a record-setting flower haul this Valentine's season, with an estimated 1,500 tons of cut flowers coming through every day between Jan. 1 and the end of February.

In the run up to Feb. 14, agricultural specialists at Miami International Airport have processed about 940 million stems of cut flowers, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Around 90% of the fresh cut flowers being sold for Valentine’s Day in the United States come through Miami, while the other 10% pass through Los Angeles.

Thousands of airport workers play a pivotal role in whether romantics across the United States enjoy the next few days. The country’s top two sources of fresh-cut flowers are Colombia and Ecuador. MIA receives 91% of all flowers that are imported by air.
