A state senator, Phil King, introduced a bill Monday requiring schools to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms. Another senator, Mayes Middleton, introduced a bill that would let schools create time for students to pray and read the Bible or “other religious texts.”

Senate Judiciary committee passes bill to require Ten Commandments in schools
The senator and lobbyist were responding to Senate Bill 114, to require public school trustees to post the Ten Commandments — on a minimum 11” by 14” poster or framed document — in each classroom in every public school in Montana. It passed 6-3 on party lines Friday without amendment after it was heard in committee the same day.
