Texas-based reality stars and Christians Chris and Joanna Gaines have squared off against conservative hardliners over the casting of a same-sex couple in their new Magnolia Network series, Back to the Frontier.

“Perhaps Chip and Joanna Gaines were never who they sold to the public,” Kira Davis posted on X. “Perhaps the reason Oprah loved them in the first place is because they were more like her than us. Perhaps we’re finding out nothing in mainstream entertainment is real. It’s all product. So are the Gaines’.”
