US President Donald Trump said he’s begun arranging a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin after a summit today with Zelensky and European leaders at the White House.
In Alaska, the Russian leader proposed that Ukraine hand over the remainder of the Donbas region to Moscow to stop the fighting.
Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed to reject Vladimir Putin's "peace deal" - which involves handing large sections of Ukraine to Russia. The Ukrainian President has claimed his Russian counterpart wants the rest of occupied Donetsk - and effectively the entire Donbas region - as part of a ceasefire deal.
At what was billed as an “historic” presidential summit, hastily put together in Alaska on Friday afternoon, the optics were as clear and overshadowing as the vast Chugach mountains glistening over Anchorage in the summer sun.
