A few weeks ago, (ESPN senior VP of production) Mark Gross called Buck to ask if he would do Opening Day. Buck was intrigued. When Gross said the game is at Yankee Stadium, Buck was fully sold, even though he had expressed reluctance to return to baseball — which he doesn’t follow as closely — since leaving Fox.

Joe Buck is coming back to baseball. Well, at least for one day. The Athletic reported on Tuesday morning that Buck will call the Baltimore Orioles-New York Yankees Opening Day game on ESPN on March 27.

Buck has called a variety of the MLB's biggest moments such as Mark McGwire's 62nd home run to break Roger Maris' record.

Joe Buck, the voice of ESPN’s Monday Night Football and veteran of 24 World Series, will call his first national Major League Baseball game since the 2021 World Series on Thursday, March 27.

Joe Buck will return to the national MLB booth for the first time in four years when he calls the Opening Day game between the Yankees and Brewers on ESPN March 27.

He will be joined by analysts Joe Girardi and Bill Schroeder. Buck left Fox for ESPN in 2022 to become the play-by-play voice of “Monday Night Football.” At the time, he indicated he was done with baseball work.

Joe Buck is set to call another MLB game, and the legendary announcer has some excellent reasons for wanting to return to the baseball booth. ESPN announced on Tuesday that Buck will be in the booth on March 27 for the Opening Day game between the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees.
