Getting ready to kick off a day w Saint Joe’s Collegiate Institute in Buffalo, NY. Pretty cool setup in the gym. I’ll be doing an assembly, meeting w various groups throughout the day (including the wrestling team) and doing a meet and greet over lunches. A full, fun day in Buffalo. | Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman

I was recently asked if i ever had a fight where I told myself I didn’t want to keep going. Some pretty remarkable questions from middle schoolers at Ridgefield Park Jr/Sr High in NJ. No, I never did. I was often scared and always nervous bc of the task at hand (fighting in a cage), but through experience and preparation came a belief and a will to keep fighting. At a certain point, survival kicks in and you just revert to training and instinct. Oddly, that’s what I loved about fighting. It puts

Seek inspiration. In the fall of 2019, my oldest brother, Scott, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. A few weeks ago, he completed an IRONMAN 70.3. He epitomizes what it means to fight. Thrrough his story and many others, that is what I hope to bring to you. “In the warrior’s code, there’s no surrender. Having some fun on stage at Bridgton Academy in Maine recently. I demonstrate a UFC faceoff during my talks to highlight that there are times and places you might want to appear indestructible, fearless and in control. But that you don’t need to carry that projection with you every day in life. It’s ok to be afraid, fearful and feel defeated. The important part is how you respond to those feelings. And being open and honest about those feelings has helped me get through the toughest times. There

My worst injury ever… I write about this one in my book DRIVEN. And the story gets a bit grody. A blowout fracture of my left orbital socket. When you fight with friends, these things are bound to happen 😳 @thestory155 @frankieedgar | Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman

Lower Dauphin Wrestling Pie in the face! They took a little too much pleasure in that 😀 Having some fun and raising some money for LD Wrestling. To boot, I paid $10 to make this happen! “It’ll be a memory,” my daughter said. | Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman

One of the hardest/gutsiest workouts I have. 300 burpees, 10 sets of 30 w one minute rest between sets. This is set 10. It’ll never get easier because it all depends on me, my effort. And I’ll never take it easy. I stand there bouncing around for a few minutes before starting because I know once I start, there’s no stopping till it’s over. Those one minute breaks, if you use them right, are a lifesaver. Same in fighting. The one minute breaks in between rounds are only 60 seconds, but it’s how y

One of the sub themes of my messaging is to get kids moving. A lot of confidence comes from physical training. Regardless how intense or not, the benefits are great. Wrestling, lifting, running, MMA - they all did wonders for my self-esteem and health. Let alone other sports and activities growing up. Get active. *This is a clip from an elementary assembly. I get the kids up and moving at the end (with Eye of the Tiger blasting out loud). | Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman

The double leg. They always love the double leg. Fight tid bit: Great wrestlers don't always make great fighters. I was a pretty good wrestler who transitioned well into fighting. One of the main reasons was my ability to set up my shots with punches and kicks. As a wrestler in a fight, when you're dead tired and can't feel your arms and legs, your automatic response is to just dive into a shot. If you do that, a nice knee or sprawl is waiting for you. It's extremely important to bury that shot

Who remembers Pros vs. Joes on Spike TV? It’s not something I normally share with younger students, as they were too young, but winning Season 1 of P v J was a pivotal moment in my life. At the time, I was teaching Spanish, on the lookout for an opportunity. To that point self-doubt had hindered my performances, but maturity (simply getting older) along with experience created an older, mentally stronger version of me. I prepared for that show as if it were my chance. I trained early mornings an

"Know what you don't know." Humility is your best friend, and when it comes to sports parenting and coaching, I encourage you to ask yourself, "What do I know?" and "What do I not know?" This week's episode on The Sports Parenting Podcast is about humility and seeking out the best when it comes to being a sports parent and coach. | Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman

I recently received "Letters to My Younger Self" from a group of inmates I'm working with. These letters were done as a way for the inmates to share their stories and lessons to others through me. Most of the guys I'm working with are lifers who've been in prison for many years and have had a lot of time (decades) to reflect on their lives and crimes. I know this is a complex topic, and one with many sides and perspectives. I look at my inmate interactions as a blessing, and my ability to share

Throwback to 2007. This was my fourth pro fight. The third round of a tournament, the finals. At the Tropicana in AC. I was always so fortunate to have a ton of fans come support. (When I do assemblies, I set up the Spaniard chant w the kids. I tell them it gives me confidence and makes me less nervous). Friends and family would travel hours to watch me fight. This tournament solidified my desire and belief to keep chasing the dream. I was coming from the classroom and was still asking myself if

Speaking in prisons has been one of the most unexpected and impactful experiences of my life. The second half of 2025 has seen me really zero in on two things...speaking in prisons, and youth sports. I'm combining my interests and my skillsets, and this post is for the Sports Parents out there. I recently created The Sports Parenting podcast, and this short video highlights our most recent episode (comes out today at 4 PM). The episode is titled "All You Can Do is All You Can Do", and I created it because I've seen and heard a lot of parents asking what more they can do for their young a
