People think it looks scary to turn irregular pieces on the lathe without first cutting them down to a shape closer to a cylinder.. however, approaching a piece in a slow and reductive way allows you to take stock of the emerging shape and patterns and adjust the centre of rotation to achieve the best composition of wood in the final piece. Cutting a piece of wood before it’s mounted on the lathe can massively impact and limit your ability to have full control of the creative process. #woodturni
