Wait… coatis in the U.S.? Yep! Chiricahua National Monument is home to the white-nosed coati, a curious cousin of the raccoon and a longtime resident of Arizona. Always on the move, these playful foragers dig for bugs, snack on acorns, and nose around for anything tasty. Large groups, like the one seen here, are usually females and young, while adult males prefer the solo life. Visitors often spot them chasing, climbing, calling, and playing. Since they sometimes gather along roads, please drive

Could you survive in the desert? Coatis can! Even though these small mammals prefer to live in dense jungles in Central and South America, they've also adapted to live in drier climates like the Sonoran Desert. Tune in to this weekend’s episode of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild to learn more about coatis and their different habitats. What better way to start the week than with treetop coatis?! This family of coatis hasn't been seen in a couple weeks, but that is not abnormal. They likely moved on for awhile and will eventually be back. I had so much fun photographing the coatis and watching them grow from tiny babies to almost adult size. Here are some clips that I never shared from back in November. They spent a good portion of the morning hanging out and snacking in this date palm. Have you ever seen wild coatis in Arizona

Here are some reasons why coatis make great pets! Spoiler alert, they are horrible pets! As always, we are trying to show animals in a positive light and although they are cute and cuddly, they do not make good pets. We are constantly advocating for people not to own exotic animals as personal pets. Please check out the Full video of this discussion it’ll be linked on my story.Coatimundis are native to south, central, and southern North America including Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. There are

Dinner time with the coatis! These little guys eat a lot in need a diverse diet full of variety! They’re very scent driven and so we try to give them a lot of different tasting foods and will give them specific scent treats. Coatimundis are native to south, central, and southern North America including Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. There are several species across that range. Coatis are very cute, but do NOT make good pets and have large teeth and can easily hospitalize a person. #coatis #coat

North Texas Animal Connections on Instagram: "#throwbackthursday to Manny hard at work getting that Christmas tree scent on him!🥰 In the wild, coatis rub natural scents on them for various reasons: parasite protection, to mark their territory and even camouflage! In captivity, they just like to collect different scents on their tails. We use scent enrichment to keep them busy and entertained.💚 #tbt #coatimundi #coati #cuteanimals"
